When it comes to typing large texts, many users prefer Notepad over advanced word editors, because it does not hinder them with automatic functions, which are difficult to turn off. If you are committed to using this simple application, then you should definitely try ZetaWord. It is similar to Notepad, but it provides a few more functions, which you will find quite helpful.

The application is freeware, so you can use it for as long as you want, without paying. The setup file is only 90 KB, so you can install ZetaWord almost instantly. It works on Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 and it requires MS .NET Framework 3.5 or a later version. Once installed, the application will automatically associate itself with plain text files.

ZetaWord looks and feels just like Notepad, so you won't need any time for accommodation. The larger area of the interface is where you may type your text and you can perform various actions by selecting an option from one of the application's top menus. You will find familiar options for opening files, printing them, undoing changes and so on, but you will also find new ones, for opening recently accessed files, jumping to a specific line and more.

Besides locating a specific word within your document, you can also perform a search with your last keyword, without typing anything. The application includes a word counter as well. Just select an option in the Tools menu and the number of words and characters will appear in the form of a notification dialog. When it comes to modifying a text, ZetaWord allows you to convert the entire document to upper or lower case, reverse the line order or sort the lines alphabetically.

Pros

ZetaWord provides a familiar interface and a set of useful features. It allows you to convert your entire text to upper or lower case, change the line order or sort your lines alphabetically. You can also access recent files, use a word counter and more.

Cons

The possibility of converting selected text to upper or lower case would be a welcomed addition. ZetaWord combines Notepad's simplicity with a few flexible tools, which can make your work much easier.
